10 Things I *Love* About Indian Weddings #1: Saris

I have been requested to write a piece on what I love about Indian weddings, from and outsider’s perspective. This is a bit challenging for me, because, well, I’ve never been to one.

What happens during Indian weddings? I heard they are long but can tell that they are gorgeous. I mean, ohmygod. I’m usually drooling on my keyboard while I look at pictures that have been sent to me or that I have found surfin’ the nets.

So I’ve decided that I will make my list of 10 things that I love about Indian weddings, while learning. I know some things so far, so I’ll start with them. Nothing is in any particular order, and I’m starting with what comes to mind first…

Drum roll please!

*SARIS!*

I have a deep deep passion for fabric, specifically, silk. So, obviously, I love saris. I actually own my own. It’s not wearable yet, but I have it, and I love it. Sometimes, I make my boyfriend wrap himself in it so I can cuddle with it.

…not really.

Anyways, let’s drool shall we?

I die.

…and this is just the embroidery? Oh, Sweet Lord…

Dead.

And the thing is these photos and pieces have nothing on what is actually out there. Heaven, it is absolute silk heaven. I will die a happy woman.

I bet ya’ll all look fabulous too! So jealous. Your culture has beautiful embroidered silks and cool jewelry, mine…fried chicken and T-shirts and jeans. *sigh*
