Hey all, we’re introducing Throwback Thursday to the website! Just like with the Instagram trend, every week we’ll be featuring weddings that harken back to a simpler time (or maybe even just the early 2000s). So feel free to submit your own parents’ or grandparents’ pictures so we can fawn over the vintage, retro-chic fashion, hair, and photography of bygone eras.
To start us off, here are my own parents, Vipin and Bharti, on their special day.
Look at that grainy-picture goodness! And check out that wood-panneling, super chic!
I wish I had a good picture of my dad’s ridiculous hair from the 80s, but I
think cutting it was a condition of the marriage.
Here’s a close-up of my mom because she and her makeup are on-point.
Twenty-five years ago yesterday they got married in New Delhi and they’re still going strong. They had a Hindu wedding and, like many other couples at the time, planned to get married on the super-auspicious, crazy-cool date of August 8th, 1988 (8/8/88). Unfortunately, their sat phere ended before the lunar calendar’s day’s end so, according to my mom, their official wedding actually ended up happening on the day before, leaving them with the wedding date of 8/7/88. Not as cool but definitely a rarer wedding date from that year. Too bad today is August 8th otherwise this TBT would have been absolutely perfect. Anyway, here’s to all the slightly off-the-plan dates and to their happy 25 years!
If you want to submit your wedding from way back when, or even your parents’ wedding, email {Nadya at thebigfatindianwedding dot com}. And feel free to tag photos on Instagram or Twitter at #WTBT (#weddingthrowbackthursday).
