Renowned designer Tarun Tahiliani always defines the upcoming season’s boldest and chicest styles whenever his designs hit the runway. His ethereal show at this year’s Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai was no different – from white organza leaves draped over the stages to hues of neutrals and sorbets worn in kurtas, lehengas, and cholis, the collection was truly dazzling.
The themes of the collection center around “resort” fashions – items that one can wear to extravagant events while still maintaining the airy simplicity of summertime. Tahiliani’s designs include thin and delicate Lucknow chikan embroidery over spring pastels and also heavier metallic filigree jewelry and patterns to reflect the brazen heat of summer.
The bold and broad range of color choices, along with the delicate and beautiful materials used in each design, made the collection a huge success to open Lakme Fashion Week 2014. Reliance Jewels partnered with Tarun Tahiliani to create flawless, contemporary art that still maintains its regal Eastern roots.
Starting with some of the black-and-white neutral wonders, this flowing black and gold choli is jaw-dropping. The cut of the huge skirt, along with the open gilet jacket make the outfit dramatic, while the belted waist and tight blouse keep the outfit sleek and controlled. I love the metallic gold paisley pattern!
This white and gold anarkhali/jacket has a menswear look about it, but the delicate chikan embroidery add a feminine flair to the outfit. The pattern resembles ancient architecture with its straight, geometric lines and designs that resemble marble columns.
I love this pale grey anarkhali with a sheer dupatta – it’s simple and stunning! The color itself is the major asset in this design, but the intricate silver embroidery and metallic border compliments it well.
Speaking of beautiful blues, take a look at this silk pastel gown embellished with white lace patterns! The sheer blouse back is daring, yet pretty enough to look sophisticated. And the fringe at the bottom of the flowing skirt is a delicate, floaty touch to a dreamy outfit.
This long, blue anarkhali paired with red borders is fit for a queen! The sheer dupatta is a modern touch, but the rest of the outfit is very traditionally regal – from the intensely delicate silver embroidery patterns to the thick floral border.
Finally, the showstopper Jacqueline Fernandez arrived in a gorgeous bright red anarkhali with gold fringes and a smart mandarin collar. The little designs bordering her dupatta and the heavy kundan jewelry was a great touch. She looks a LOT different than her recognizable character in the Race 2 item number – but in a very respectably elegant way!
Overall, Tarun Tahiliani’s collection took the fashion world into a dreamy paradise – where light, airy outfits can be modified into eye-catching designs. His ability to transform any color – from black and whites to bold oranges – into flashy yet demure outfits is what makes his collection one of the season’s bests.
