Sonam Kapoor’s Look at Cannes Festival 2013 – Nose Ring Hit or Miss?
Sonam, whose love for vintage is well known, wore an antique white and gold creation by designer Anamika Khanna. The outfit was pulled together with a gold, baroque styled jacket.
For all of you dying to know about her makeup, here’s the secret. Sonam wore True Match liquid foundation by L’Oreal. For her eye makeup, she used super liner black lacquer for the winged liner and gold eye shadow. Very Berry lipstick by L’Oreal and retro braided hairdo completed her look. I think we all agree that the old Bollywood look is in!
Perhaps what was most controversial was the bauble oversized nose ring. Some believed it was a distraction to her old Bollywood look while others thought she had something growing on her nose.
What is certain is that the nose ring has a life of its own. I am leaning on the love it side because it’s different and refreshing. It pushes the boundaries of fashion without being obscene. And to be honest, these diamond styled nose rings are nothing new to tribal Indian culture.
So why not flaunt it?
Even Vidya Balan wore a gold hoop nose ring. Wearing a Sabyasachi, she wasn’t her stunning self but she still was beautiful.

And on day 2 of the festival, Sonam wore a Dolce & Gabbana floral dress. She pulled off the pink rose floral pattern, though she was desperately close to wallpaper. Well, not Kim Kardarshian wallpaper dress at least!

Save Our Tigers – Aircel, Fashion, & Conservation {Lakme Fashion Week 2013}
Aircel, one of India’s leading telecom players, hosted a fashion evening as an extension of its tiger conservation initiative Aircel ‘Save Our Tigers’. The ramp at the Lakme Fashion Week was transformed into a jungle where the tigers roared loud and fearless.
The tiger has lost 93% of its population over the past century. Deforestation, poaching, and encroachment, has left the king of the jungle a mere jack rabbit. There are less than 3,200 tigers left in the world, of which around 1,900 live in India.
To help support and reinforce the survival of tigers, Aircel and the WWF are working together. Through children’s outreach education, fundraising, and superior scientific tracking, they are improving the tigers habitat.
To raise awareness for India’s beloved, Aircel sponsored a special fashion show at Lakme Fashion Week.
The show styled by Aki Narula, witnessed Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia walking down the ramp with other models who wore the garments inspired by the tiger. 189 designers sent in 300 garments out of which 40 were shortlisted to be showcased including Kallol Datta, Nachiket Barve, Arjun Khanna, Swapnil Shinde, Rocky S, Satya Paul and more.
The three best garments were chosen and awarded with a cash prize while the rest will be retailed with the proceeds going towards tiger conservation.
Brinda Mallhotra, Head-CSR, Aircel, said,
“Tigers today, are among the ten most endangered species in the world and need active protection. As part of our ‘Save our Tigers’ initiative, we have taken various measures towards tiger conservation and have been working closely with bodies like WWF-India, the Wildlife Trust of India, Wildlife Conservation Trust and many other independent NGOs. We have also started ‘Kids for Tiger’ program as an extension to the initiative, where we have educated over a million children on environment and tiger conservation in the last two years.”
I hope these beautiful outfits inspire you to save our tigers too.

Pakistan Bridal Couture Week 2013 {Recap}
Pakistan’s Bridal Couture Week sponsored by Pantene is a pomp and circumstance affair showcasing the best of the country’s fashion.
From usual and bizarre (giant butterflies attached to dresses) to the elegant, the fashion week is fun and the trendsetter for the industry.
Trend 2013 Watch:
Multistrand Necklaces – Why have one necklace when you can nestle several strands into an ensemble?
Zari Balls – I think that’s what they are called! They are the cute little dangling balls made of cloth or beads that border a dupatta. They were in fashion for a second a few years ago but are back with blitz.
White – White is classic but it is not often seen on the Indian or Pakistani runways. What a refresher to see plently of beautiful white shararas and salwars!
And now for some amazing couture Pakistani designers!

Turquoise Necklace Set — Oooo, Ahhh! {Accessory Wednesday}
One of my favorite precious stones is the turquoise. The variations of blues and greens with flecks of blacks and golds is infinite.
And so beautiful!
This necklace captured my heart. The giant stones, the multilayer strands, and the gold flowers just scream elegance. How can you not want to wear one for a mehndi ceremony or any pre-wedding event?!
If you’re thinking, what bangles and necklace do I buy… look no further.

Sunshine Yellow
Besides falling in love with pastels this season, we have to make a special mention to yellow. That happy, warm sunshine yellow. Recharge your wardrobe with a splash of it. Indian weddings are all about bright, so take the yellow and become that ray of light at a festivity (just don’t outshine the bride!). This combo below even makes for beautiful mix and match bridesmaid outfits.

Bhairavi Jaikishan’s Vintage Flower Collection {Lakme Fashion Week 2013}
When I think of vintage lace and British flower motifs, I think of Bhairavi Jaikishan. Her collections are soft, sweet, and a reminder of a simpler time.
Her spring/summer collection is similar to her bridal collection but brighter and airier. Yup, we did get a few bright pinks and mango oranges lenghas. And those were my favorites!
And without keeping you waiting, my favorite saris and lenghas from her show.
Gaurang’s Regal Fusion Collection {Lakmé Fashion Week 2013}
Gaurang Shah presented a royal fusion of Rajasthani kota jamdani weaves and intricate Lucknowi chikankari embroidery. His styles were traditional but refreshing.
He said “Our woven collection at LFW have silhouettes that are flowy and manifold like the rose petals. The flowy dresses reflect grandness with contemporary as well as fashion forward captivating look. We have used 12-15 meters of fabric in each of our creation. The creation is the outcome of collaboration of finest handloom kota weaves from Rajasthan and chic elegance of finest chikankaris of Uttar Pradesh.”
We love the pieces, they are like works of art!
This lengha is made from 28 meters of fabric. Talk about ornate.

And this kind of show requires a showstopper. Chitrangada wore stunning hand woven rajasthani black kota sari. We saw her last time at Aamby Valley in a glorious white lengha by Tarun Tahiliani. This is the kind of wow sari for a reception!
Naeem Khan’s Stunning Collection {Lakmé Fashion Week 2013}
Most of us know Naeem Khan for dressing the First Lady, Michelle Obama. In gold, in Jackie-O white, in the evening, in the afternoon, for the Oscars, Khan has made the first lady beautiful and stunning.
A veteran of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week for 16 seasons, Khan is debuting at Lakmé Fashion Week. And what a début! From black and white 60s inspired dresses to teals and emeralds to bold reds, he left us all happily dazed. And his experience at MBFW shows: a flair for high fashion and Indian glam. While several of the pieces have already debuted at MBFW, there were a few surprises.
Without further waiting, because I know you all are waiting to see what Mr. Khan can do for us beautiful ranis, our favorites of his spring/summer collection!
Criss cross – Striped ball gown sari. Truly for the lady who wants to make a statement!

The most stunning entry of all – Blood red draped gown with intricate bead-worked cape.
Manish Malhotra’s Bollywood Through the Decades Show – Lakmé Fashion Week 2013
Design Manish Malhotra took the audience on a walk through a century of Bollywood fashion at his spring collection show this past weekend. At the show, he showcased everything from the 1930s black and white embroidered ornate look to the 1980s obsession with polka dots.
We picked out our favorite pieces from his collection that could be a piece at one of your wedding events or even as a guest.
Black and White – Though black and white isn’t a traditional combination for weddings, it is certainly in style for weddings this year. Perhaps unsuited as a bridal outfit, unless you’re looking for offbeat, but think of it for a sangeet or a reception dinner piece. You could even turn a reception dinner into a black tie event, and voilà, your piece is perfect.

Pastels – Soft peony pinks to dusky lilacs, Malhotra captured the essence of feminine beauty with soft, sweet colors. Anyone can rock this outfit for a party or pooja and still be fashionable.

Neon- For something colorful with pizazz go with neon. Priyanka Chopra’s neon green sari with orange trim will make anyone smile and laugh.

Tarun Tahiliani’s Spring White & Color Collection at Lakmé Fashion Week 2013
Veteran designer Tarun Tahiliani showcased his latest Spring Summer 2013 collection at the opening show of Lakmé Fashion Week Spring Summer in Mumbai, India.
The Spring Summer collection draws on the strengths and trademark techniques like traditional embroideries and revolutionised digital prints that are characteristic of the Tarun Tahiliani design sensibility. From easy ready to wear to occasion wear there was something for everyone.
“The India Modern separates dominating this collection take a fresh look at the needs of the contemporary Indian woman for comfort and luxury. The collection is replete with renewed youthful simplicity so as to help her transition from day wear to loungewear effortlessly.” said Tarun Tahiliani.
The spring collection is an inspiration for a breezy, beach style mehndi and sangeet for brides wanting something colorful but not overbearing. Accents of mango sorbets, peaches, tangerines and azure blues make each outfit decidedly delicious and quirky.
For a bride wanting something more understated but elegant, the whites and ivories are just that. Shifting silhouettes, offbeat kurtas, and concept saris set the trend.
Either way, we see happy, fun, summer weddings to come!
