Men’s Fashion at Aamby Valley India Bridal Week

Posted on October 14, 2011February 28, 2012

Men’s fashion at any show tends to get put to the back burner, and sometimes with good reason. No matter how hard you try, there’s a limited amount of colors that a man can wear.

Now, granted, Indian men wearing a sherwani or kurta pajama can find them in blues, reds, greens, and of course white and black. For the most part though, they wear neutral colors.

At the 2011 Aamby Valley India Bridal Week, it was no different really. Some designers wowed us with men’s clothes and some just, blaahed. Wowed and blaahed are technical terms by the way.

First, the miss. Rocky S tried too hard to re-invent the tux. I was not turned on.

This Rocky S piece was a bit too plain for the runaway, but the brocade was gorgeous

Anjalee and Arjun Kapoor fared better, but I was not wowed by any of the sherwanis.

This piece on the right is screaming, “use me as a mirror.” The sherwani on the left is rather hot.

Some of the other designers over the week has nice pieces but this year’s men’s fashion was not in the game.

Honestly, being a guy, I get rather disappointed of the “appropriate” colors I can wear. Black, blue, gray, charcoal, etc. Neutral colors are boring!

When I was at my friends wedding in India, all of us westerners went for the bright colors! Golds, reds, teals, greens, it was awesome! I really feel that these colors, when done correctly, look MUCH better than a guy in a black tux.

I agree about the tux, not particular inspired. Always a shame about men’s fashion, especially in weddings. Sure the colors and fabrics change a bit, but ultimately the cuts stay the same.
