In the last post I discussed how to create a Pinterest account and how to navigate around the site.
Now, I’m going to show you WHY Pinterest is awesome. Instead of having a scrapbook with 50 cuteout lenghas, make them virtual and share with your mom and sisters.
Even your table decoration can be shared instantly with your family and wedding planner/decorator so that you know what is and isn’t possible.
Here’s a list of boards you should have as a bride to be. I have many of these boards on my Pinterest. Be sure to click on the links to follow the board and get pinning inspiration!
Bride’s Apparel
- Bridal Outfits AKA Wedding Saris AKA Wedding Outfits – What are you going to wear?!
- Wedding Week Outfits – If you are a having a mendhi or sangeet, you will need more than one outfit!
- Hair Styles – How do you want your hair done for every event?
- Makeup styles – Every outfit needs some makeup!
- Bridal Mehndi – To give you an idea of different styles and designs (hindu, arabic, fusion).
- Accessories – Bangles, tikkas, anklets, hair pieces, purses, etc.
- Jewelry sets – Necklaces, earrings and tikkas that go together.
- Flower bouquets – What kind of flowers do you want for your wedding bouquet?
- Garlands – Exchanged during the muruth.
- Shoes – Need i say more?
- Kalira – Punjabi brides, this is a must. Create a board of different types of kaleera from materials used to sizes.
- Hijabs – You might not be showing off your locks but that doesn’t mean you can’t have ornate flower and jeweled pieces in your hijab.
Wedding & Reception Decoration
- General idea board – To get your started. A place to pin all the photos you but don’t know what to do with.
- Palaquin – Different styles on riding into the wedding in a palaquin.
- Reception Tables – By far the most important, how do you want the tables to look and be decorated?
- China patterns – Ideas on plate settings and colors
- Flower decorations – Tabletop and otherwise
- Mandaps – Must have for a Hindu or Jain wedding!
- Color Boards – Not sure what color theme you want the wedding or reception to be? Make a board for each color. For example, you can see these color boards to get started.

- Name and Table Placement – Inspiration on how to list guest names and get them from door to table.
- Dessert buffet – Something fun and different if you want a dessert table at the reception.
- Wedding cakes – As more and more South Asian weddings in the west go for cakes, you’ll want board for this too. Besides, you can drool without the calories.
Apparel Everyone
- Bridesmaids Gowns AKA Bridesmaids Dresses – Do you want a color theme or certain style that your bridesmaids should follow? Create a board just for them!
- Sherwanis – Yes, that bloke you’re marrying needs to find something to wear too!
- Groomsmen – If you have bridesmaids, there’s a good chance you should have groomsmen too. What should they wear?
You can add a whole lot more boards depending on the type of wedding you’re having and where the wedding will be held. These 20 or starter boards should get the bride in you inspired for the big days!
