We have a super cute couple today! Diana and Andrew were married a few months back in Etobicoke, Ontario. They had a Hindu ceremony followed by a Catholic ceremony and a reception.
Much of their wedding was DIY (do it yourself) and to be honest, I would not known until Diana mentioned. They did an AMAZING job of putting together a beautiful and lavish wedding on a stricter budget. And, their adorable puppy made a cameo appearance.
Might I say, *awesome*! Oh, and we’re so happy to hear she loves our Color Palette Monday.
So, here’s the story from bride Diana AND the groom, Andrew!
Hi! We are Andrew and Diana. We had our two day wedding on May 10th and 11th. The Hindu ceremony was at the Devi Mandir in Pickering, ON and the church/reception was at St. Clement’s Parish/Clairport Banquet Hall in Etobicoke, ON. We got engaged on a hot air balloon.
I got a lot of inspiration/ideas from The Big Fat Indian Wedding. My favorite part of the site are the colour palettes. The rainbow crush and fuschia lime punch were two of my favorites. I couldn’t decide on just one palette! Oh, and yes, this part was all me, hubby stepped out of this conversation. I love bold colours and I am known as an energetic and creative person.
So, for the Hindu wedding, I chose fuchsia, tangerine and purple. For the reception, I chose turquoise and purple. I love spring so I wanted a lot of colour everywhere.
I wore a yellow lengha for the first part of the ceremony. It was my last Pooja I completed as a single lady. The yellow is significant for purity and Ganesh Pooja. I then changed into my ‘married clothes’ which was a red lengha.
We did a lot of the wedding ourselves. That was how we managed to cut costs to afford the bigger items that we wanted. We did our own invitations, give-aways, wedding program, cake, décor for the Indian wedding, stools for the mandap and even the centre pieces for the Hindu ceremony.
I even made my own arm band jewellery! To say the least, this wedding was a lot of work. My friends and family were available to help me with the small tasks and helped me get ready as well. It took nine of us four hours to decorate the temple for the wedding. They were so amazing, and we couldn’t have done it without them. And, Andrew made all the maps that went into the invites plus helping with lots of DIY stuff.
He was also my personal de-stressor. Even on the day of the wedding, all it took was a phone call to him to feel relaxed and happy.
The favorite part of our wedding was at the end of the night when we were driving home and realized that we were finally married. Our cheeks were sore from smiling so much for pictures, but then after we couldn’t stop smiling. And even the rain couldn’t stop us!
Thank you Diana and Andrew for sharing your wedding story. We wish you a lot of happiness and love! Also, thank you to R+L Photography for the photos.
