If you are a bride, you have probably heard the term boudoir thrown around on wedding forums or when speaking to potential photographers.
And you might wondering why it is such a big deal to take peek-a-boo photos for your future husband.
Well, it’s not just about taking sexy photos for a partner, it is about you. Erin, of Erin Leppo Photography, said it best:
“Bridal boudoir is a unique and empowering experience for the bride to be! It is popular now because why wouldn’t every woman document how beautiful and special they feel before their big day? I believe the experience and purpose of bridal boudoirs is just as important for the groom as it is to the bride. The bride has a whole shoot in her honor to celebrate her beauty and sexuality.”
The bridal boudoirs isn’t just for “your man.” It is for you too! It is a celebration of your beauty, no matter what you think of yourself, and ability to let go and feel beautiful.
Really. We women have lots of fucked-up issues when it comes to looks and body acceptance. When many of us think boudoir, we think of a Playboy pinup image sexualizing big breasted, tiny waisted, rail-thin women objectified for men’s pleasure. Even Bollywood loves their boob fest of Indian actresses wearing the least amount of clothes with the most amount of gyrations per second.
And that is how women have been turned off for years to take boudoir photos. But, it is making a comeback now. Not because society has changed, it has slightly, but because women are feeling empowered.
Being a bride certainly means you can take your boudoir shots for your husband to be. Still, it should be about celebrating you. Getting your makeup done, wearing pretty clothes and dopey t-shirts, doing your hair, having fun.
As Erin puts it: “There is no better time then now to do your boudoir! We could all go on and on all day about we want to fix this or that about our bodies. But let’s face the music, let’s empower ourselves and love our bodies. Let’s celebrate what we have and where we are today.”
You can have the bridal boudoir today, and the maternity boudoir of tomorrow. Truly, who says you can be beautiful when you are pregnant? Pregnant women today are much more cherished in society than they were a mere hundred years ago.
Henna your belly and take some pretty shots, or get dressed up in a sari and be a goddess.
