Sania Maskatiya’s Pakistani Bridal Week display played around with traditional and contemporary themes – as well as Asian influences. Her style is characterized as “reasonable couture,” since it strives to be high-end fashion but also aesthetic and practical.
The collection features a mix of traditional lehengas and cholis, along with some modern additions of pantsuits thrown in. The color scheme tends to be either gold, orange, and cream or neons. Both work well with the given outfits – the pastel colors complement traditional Pakistani dresses while the neons are better suited to the sleeveless blouses and pantsuits in the collection.
I love the consistency in intricate designs. Regardless of whether the outfit is a floor-length salwar or a dotted pantsuit, the use of embroidered or beaded designs is seen throughout. It adds a delicate touch to each design and ties it back into the regal Pakistani glamour.
I appreciated the Asian shoutout in the jacket design of this pantsuit, but I thought the whole look had too much color and pattern going on. From bright purples and red to gold and green, the color mixture is too diverse and doesn’t allow the outfit to shine in any particular aspect.
My favorite design was the simple, yet elaborate cream and orange salwar with floral embroidery. It’s a basic design made all the more fancy with its delicate beading and interplay of neutral and bright colors. The red and silver border is eye-catching and finishes off the outfit in a fun way!
Sania Maskatiya’s collection definitely won my admiration. It managed to pull off both traditional designs and modern twists with elegance and class. The bright colors and detailed embroidery make each outfit one of a kind.
