Vera Wang recently unveiled her Fall 2014 collection of wedding gowns at NY Bridal Week. And my goodness, in typical Vera style, they will have you falling all yourself to get one.
Why? Because Vera loves color! Last year, she featured a collection of red dresses in different hues. For us South Asians, that’s like screaming, “WEAR ME!” If you paired one of those red wedding gowns with a chunky polki necklace and a haath phool, you would be the talk of the town.
This season, Vera takes on a more sublte, and vintage shabby sweet route. From soft, dreamy pinks to bold melon pinks, she’s covered the world of pink, minus the nauseating baby shower pink color.
My favorite mermaid, sweetheart dresses in the ombres of pinks.
A few of the Cinderella ballgown wedding dresses in pink ombres.
And the theme is peonies. Those happy, droopy, super fragrant flowers. I love peonies. LOVE peonies! Forget the roses. Go for peonies at your dinner party (okay, they are out of season now, but wait till next spring).
Vera unveiled 15 new wedding gown looks for the new year. Let’s go over them and start drooling!
Look 1: Petal strapless silk mermaid gown with organic flower detail accented by tulle hand draping and cascading bias cut silk organza flanges.
The Verdict: Elegantly simple with the soft pleats and deconstructed roses.
Look 2: Petal strapless silk organza ball gown with hand draped bodice accented by organic flower, grosgrain shoulder strap and peony faille blossom.
The Verdict: The asymmetrical ribbon is darling and perfect for small framed girls. The large peony on the front is adorable. The dark magenta peony on the back left side, adds that much needed color. But the most stunning part? The delicate lace trim peek-a-booing from behind.
Look 3: Petal strapless silk ball gown with hand draped tulle bodice and organic flower detail accented by silk organza ruffles.
The Verdict: A rework of Look 1 in a ballgown style.
Look 4: Petal strapless silk gazaar ball gown with hand draped bodice accented by exposed corset neckline and peony organic pleated flower.
The Verdict: The bow tie back is oh so sexy and the giant ruched rose adds that splash of color.
Look 5: Rose strapless silk ball gown with hand applique Chantilly lace bodice, grosgrain bows and draped skirt accented by crystal pleated tulle detail.
The Verdict: A melon-salamander pink with tulle ruffles are perfectly romantic and would go with any South Asian bride skintone. Plus, it would be the doll of a reception outfit.
Look 6: Rose strapless silk sweetheart mermaid gown with hand draped tulle detail accented by circle cluster lace and floral beaded embroidery.
The Verdict: Got some curves and boobage? A mermaid will fit you right where you need it and make you look stunning. So we love this look, pulled together with the bow tie.
Look 7: Rose strapless silk ball gown with hand draped tulle bodice accented by vermicelli beading at neckline and skirt with floral beaded embroidery.
The Verdict: The train floral embroidery is a.maz.ing! That is all!
Look 8: Coral strapless circle cluster and butterfly lace ball gown with tumbled tulle accented by organic flower detail and floral beaded embroidery.
The Verdict: We love the circle bubbles, like floating in a bubble bath of happiness! And of course the oversized peony makes an appearance.
Look 9: Coral strapless silk mermaid gown with organza flange detail accented by faille blossom, pleated organza and floral beaded embroidery.
The Verdict: A much sophisticated style than Look 6, this is the dress for a formal reception party.
Look 10: Coral strapless hand pleated silk faille and honeycomb tulle mermaid gown with horsehair ribbons, organic flower detail and floral beaded embroidery. Coral underlay with hand applique Chantilly lace and floral beaded embroidery.
The Verdict: Short lace collared-sleeves, we love! Double the roses, double the fun.
Look 11: Coral strapless silk ball gown with hand applique Chantilly lace, gauze draping and floral beaded embroidery.
The Verdict: A simple dress, though we like it, it’s not our favorite.
Look 12: Coral strapless chiffon mermaid gown with alternating pleat bodice, organic flower detail and pleated tier skirt.
The Verdict: We’re not sure if we love Look 9 or this one more. The ruffled and layered pleated skirt, the luscious melon pink color, and of course a bow.
Look 13: Peony strapless faille ball gown with hand draped bodice, open back detail, faille blossom and floral beaded embroidery.
The Verdict: Moving in the last set of colors: true peony, we are not totally in love with this dress like the others. A little pedestrian for Vera’s style.
Look 14: Peony strapless faille sweetheart mermaid gown with double bow back detail and floral beaded embroidery.
The Verdict: From the front, this looks like a simple mermaid gown, then you look at the back and it’s like, “hubba hubba – we like”! Double back bows and embroidered tulle? What could be prettier?
Look 15: Peony strapless faille ball gown with hand draped bodice and coral floral beaded embroidery.
The Verdict: Last, but certainly not least, a simple but oh so sweet peony Cinderalla inspired gown. Perhaps not perfect for the Indian wedding, you can certainly turn some heads at someone else’s wedding. Kidding!
So lovely ladies, which look is your favorite from Vera Wang’s fall bridal collection?
