Half notebook, half wedding planning guide, the lovely new ebook Borrowed, Blue & Vegan Too!: Your Guide to Rocking a Vegan Wedding from Vegan Weddings HQ is 100% wonderful.
As a vegan staring down the far-off but still potential barrel of a wedding gun, reading Borrowed, Blue & Vegan Too! was like applying balm to my anxiety.
It was so clear, sensitive, and thoughtful about all the possible obstacles to throwing the vegan wedding of your dreams that I felt just a bit calmer after reading it (and I’m not even planning a wedding right now!).
I especially liked the list of problem items (like did you know film can contain glycerin, an animal-fat?). I’ve been a vegan for almost a year and I haven’t ever thought about some of these not being inherently animal-free. The ebook also included links to stores and vendors who could help you out with questions and further resources. It was like having an e-hand lead you through a maze of panic and confusion.
One of the most useful parts was the discussion of how best to broach the topic with your family and partner of having a vegan wedding. The ebook asks questions sympathetically and allows you to determine where exactly you fall in the vegan wedding spectrum – do you want a veganish wedding or do you want to go the full 9 yards? – and how you want to get there.
These questions are meant to just start the conversation, though I wish I could just give this book to my loved ones and ask them to sort out their own feelings while I galavant off in to my cruelty-free sunset.
If you enjoy To-Do lists and color-coding your socks, you’ll be happy to know there is a handy set of worksheets and surveys in the back that let you plan out your wedding and organize your thoughts. The ebook also includes all the useful symbols to look for (like the leaping bunny) on the items you purchase just to make extra sure what you’re buying is vegan. Hooray for organization I don’t have to do myself!
In the midst of all these goodies, Borrowed, Blue & Vegan Too! included pictures of successful vegan weddings with beautiful and happy vegan couples. It even showed off some of the food, proving that yes, vegans do know where to get protein (and how to put together a mouth-watering spread).
It even included a series of quotations and testimonies from people who have planned their own vegan weddings. This ebook is so chock-full of advice and solidarity, it would be hard to feel all alone when you start planning.
Basically, in conclusion, I’m going to stash this ebook and covertly send it to my Dadi, just so she feels a little bit better about having no paneer at my possible future hypothetical wedding.
