Today is a wedding all about fusion, love, and culture. And probably a lot of delicious food.
And wedding outfits!
Jenny and Anil got married in Atlanta, Georgia, to a truly international gathering. Their family and friends came from all over the world to celebrate their double wedding. And they themselves have rich cultural heritages.
Before we get to our interview with Jenny, let’s oogle at her wedding dresses. ALL FOUR OF THEM!
And that wedding cake. Look at that tied, wedding cake! Reminds me of the one at this California Gatsy wedding.
Tell us about the wedding!
My husband is half Indian and half Vietnamese and I’m Chinese. We had a Hindu ceremony and Christian ceremony. The Christian ceremony was held at the Biltmore Ballrooms in downtown Atlanta on Saturday followed by the Sangeet. The Hindu ceremony was held at the Grand Hyatt in Buckhead Atlanta on Sunday followed by the reception.
For the Hindu ceremony, we wore traditional Hindu clothing. I wore a lengha and my husband wore a sherwani. There’s a Chinese tradition of giving away “happiness” candy as a gift when you get married. My aunt in China bought these red candy bags with the Chinese “happiness” symbol on them and we filled them with Hershey’s kisses and left them on the guests’ place settings at the reception.
What was the inspiration for your wedding?
The different cultures represented by both sides of the families. Tying pieces of the different cultures together was challenging and fun at the same time.
What was the hardest part about wedding planning?
The hardest part was accommodating our guests from all over the world. We had friends and family fly in from India, China, Japan, France and all across the US. Coming up with a menu that will have a little something for everyone was a bit challenging.
Did you do any DIY (do it yourself) or special projects/things at the wedding?
During the Christian ceremony, we had these unity candles that were lit. We decorated those candles and the holder they sat on with pink ribbons and jewels.
What was your favorite part of the wedding?
The reception. The stress of the ceremonies was over and we were finally able to enjoy ourselves and really celebrate with our friends and family.
Ask for help. We had a lot of help during our wedding weekend. Our wedding planner brought her team and we had a group of family and friends that helped out a lot too. Unexpected things will come up and the less you have to worry about on your wedding day, the better.
