Summer may not be here, but that doesn’t mean we cannot fall in love with a British Indian summer wedding.
What’s summer without fields of green and cloudy skies in London? Tanya and Saurabh didn’t have any summer showers, but there were showered with lots of love at their Sikh wedding near Greenwich.
And we really love, how they created a low-key, high class day of fun, food, and family. Plus the exposed wedding cake (there is no icing or fondant covering it), just had us all drooling for joy.
Tanya shares her special day with us!
Tell us about the wedding!
Our wedding date was in June 2013 in London, United Kingdom. The wedding ceremony took place at Gurdwara Sahib Woolwich. After the wedding, we headed to Royal Greenwich park for photos, and then to an Indian restaurant for drinks and dinner. The whole idea was to enjoy the day with family and friends, and not to get carried away with technical details.
What was the inspiration for your wedding?
We had friends and family travel from abroad just for the wedding. It was the most memorable day so far in mine and my husband’s life. We therefore wanted everyone to enjoy and feel special just like we did! We took quirky pictures and had a Charlie Chaplin style short movie done covering all the highlights of the day!
What was the hardest part about wedding planning?
I was doing it all by myself and had to work a full time job. It was tough to arrange everything in short two months. From choosing the right menu and restaurant, to choosing the right photographer & videographer!
Did you do any DIY (do it yourself)?
My mother stitched my wedding dress with special golden ribbons she had kept just for me from my childhood. She sewed them on my dupatta (head scarf).
What was your favorite part of the wedding?
Photos taken of myself!! I love the camera! Also signing the register was so much fun.
What 3 words of advice do you have for future brides-to-be?
Enjoy the day and never ever get too technical with small things. It will be perfect in any way if you have the right man in your life!
Look after yourself and family and friends… without them this day won’t be as special.
