Faryal and Nick’s wedding is so glamorous! With the traditional red, Faryal’s completely on-point makeup, and Nick’s dashing sherwani, this whole event looks like a romantic fantasy.
But like seriously, check out Faryal’s dress and tell me if I’m lying.
We talked to Faryal about her beautiful day:
Tell us about the wedding.
We had a Pakistani winter wedding in Lahore! Nick and I wanted a mix of modern and traditional – I incorporated modern by having the baraat outside, during the day, and making the function small. We kept things traditional by incorporating the red lehenga, the groom’s sherwani, my grandmother and mother’s jewelry, and traditional rasms.
Our mehndi function was also a simplified one – emphasis on the dancing, fun, food, and guests! We had the function as a family friend’s house on the Punjab University campus, where my dad grew up and my parents met. I really just wanted everyone to have a great time.
What was the inspiration for your wedding?
The inspiration for our mehndi was truck art, Bollywood, and Lahore. The music and food were so important to us all, and Bollywood movies and Lahori food are something that Nick and I both love, so we had a great time. My idea for the baraat was that the focus be on the people – I didn’t want anything distracting and glitzy to overwhelm the people in the pictures. Thus, I kept the decor simple, and allowed the beautiful venue to do the work. I wanted to guests to remember our wedding as a pleasant afternoon with fun and good food
What was the hardest part of about wedding planning?
The hardest part of wedding planning, at least in Lahore, is getting people to understand your take on what your wedding should be. It is incredibly time consuming to find what vendors fit you and your party. The Videographers and the baraat venue were the most lucky finds for me. In Pakistan, there are also ridiculously broad options for clothing. I started of wanting anything but a red lehenga, and ended up with a bright red piece I love. I became so frustrated with the designers in Lahore, I ended up designing the dress myself!
What was your favorite part of the wedding?
My favorite part of the wedding was celebrating with Nick, my family, and friends. For once, I got to have all my favorite people in the same place at the same time! It was a great time, and I loved hearing how much fun everyone had.
