Lovelies, I’d like to welcome to you our Indian Aussie Bride, Gagan! Over the next year, we will be bringing you desi brides from around the world as they plan their wedding.
About Gagan:
My name is Gaganpreet recently engaged to Navjot around 6 months ago and now in the process of wedding planning! I am attaching my engagement photos as some eye candy as you read.
Wedding planning is A LOT of work especially in the South Asian community. We tend to have weddings that go on for days and each day is as special as the big day its self. As a bride to be you feel as you have to plan everything to perfection! I mean why not it’s your big day. Every wedding has its own story and represents the couple.
I have always wanted to get married in India no matter what and always use to plan things in a journal for the things I would wear, decorations, themes etc. Now that the day isn’t to far away its not as easy as I use to think.
I am from Australia so to plan a destination wedding in India is crazy! Organising becomes confusing but a few trips there and back and having a numerous amount of family and friends does it make it that easier and reassuring.
The wedding will be held in Punjab, India on the 6th of December 2015; roughly 3.5 months from now. Some couples take a good amount of time between their engagement and wedding, which is a smart idea.
Although when it comes to me, I get over excited and just couldn’t wait, keeping in mind me and Nav do live in different states so it can be hard seeing each other a few times a year! A 10 month period was the perfect for us.
As far as the theme/style goes for the wedding I have always liked the way plain colours goes. Im a gold girl, it’s sort of my weakness everything must have gold in it! Haha. As for my engagement I had wore a all gold lengha too so that just says it all (guilty). So the style will incorporate a lot of gold in, its just really figuring out what other options I will I can add and where.
My favourite part of wedding planning is the shopping! (Common I know you all are guilty!). I guess its just a girl thing. You go out pick out your outfit, jewellery, shoes, bag and at the end of the day whatever you choose impersonates who you are. Choosing your bridesmaid dress’s is equally as stressful as finding your own. I’ve had experience from this when we were planning my aunties wedding a 2 years ago. I’m really looking forward to traveling to india in October to do all that.
Organising and designing who will wear what in the family to match you can be the least favourite from the planning. You don’t want to force anyone to wear something even though they won’t complain because its your day. When you have a big family it can be a challenge but hey end of the day it’s still shopping so it has some fun!
Thinking of the outfit I would want to wear I would have to have gold on the outfit somewhere! And as far as the colours go I’m all up for the traditional wedding colours. Their bold, bright and make you stand out! For my bouquet I’m a sucker for roses so I will incorporate at least two different colours of roses, keeping in mind I can’t have a 100 rose bouquet (although that would be amazing) but a decent size.
As far as my honeymoon planning goes me and my partner Nav have decided on a few destinations like Europe, America, maybe Sun City (Africa) as I’ve heard from a number of friends it’s beautiful.
Thats a whole new subject for planning. Once we have finished the major work for the wedding we will start planning that too. Traveling overseas will be best relaxation after a hectic few months!
xoxo
Gagan
