Today’s wedding is super special as we head across the world to my adopted homeland in Scandinavia. This boho Bengali wedding took place in the beautiful capital of Stockholm.
Last year we featured one of photographer Fredric Sannebro’s Syrian wedding in Stockholm. Check out those lovely pics too!
Enjoy this idyllic fall wedding from Sany and Anima!
Tell us about the wedding!
We had a big, fat Bengali, Muslim, autumn wedding in Stockholm, Sweden. We had a total of three ceremonies. One Indian style “holud”, a colorful evening including several dance sequences and a big buffet of Bengali food. The color themes were royal blue for the groom’s team and purple for the bride’s. Three hundreds guests came to the event!
The second occasion was a smaller event held at the top floor of a tower in the city centre with panoramic glass view over the beautiful sunset of Stockholm. This was when the actual Islamic marriage was conducted by a Swedish imam among close family, friends and relatives. The menu was a tasteful fusion of Bengali and Afghani food.
The last and the biggest event was the reception of total 600 guests. The color theme was white as the I wore pastel peach and the groom was wearing silver grey. The favor boxes at the tables were matching the bride’s dress. The menu was a fusion of Indian and Bengali food. There were several chocolate fountains in different colors and big dessert buffet.
What was the inspiration for your wedding?
Instagram, Facebook, internet, magazines and of course our own imagination and dreams!
What was the hardest part about wedding planning?
Trying to include everybody’s opinions and not hurting the ones whose wishes we could not manage to fulfill. A lot of ego and drama!
The dress ordering was a near disaster. I had a very poor experience with Hina Khan, an online page, and the whole thing was not pleasant. I cried and screamed and saw new crazy sides of myself that I never knew existed.
Did you do any DIY (do it yourself) or special projects/things at the wedding?
yes, our wedding invitation was a small elephant carrying a box on its back holding the invitations for the different ceremonies. We ordered the elephants from Denmark, the boxes from China and colored all of the elephants as traditional Indian wedding elephants ourselves and the responses were outstanding! We also did the pom poms and the stage were we sat for our holud ourselves among thousands of other things.
What was your favorite part of the wedding?
Bringing all of our big, fat families together in joy and laughter. We had guests flown over from Denmark, Bangladesh, France, Russia, Algeria and Germany.
What advice do you have for future brides/grooms-to-be?
Don’t panic! When starting off your wedding planning, try to keep in mind that it will never end up exactly as in your head. You can’t control everything so try to go with the flow and try to enjoy your big day even though there is a lot of stress and chaos.
Thank you so much for sharing your wedding with us!
