Good day, our loyal readers! We have such a cheerful, fun wedding for you today. Priyanka and Steven’s sweet and sunny traditional Hindu wedding in Minnesota was a celebration of their whirlwind romance (they were engaged within two months!).
We asked bride Priyanka about her big day.
What is your story as a couple?
Basically we met in law school when I noticed his dance moves at a party. We started dating and were engaged within a matter of two months. It was sort of a whirlwind romance. Our engagement was very simple. He came home one day and asked me to marry him. He didn’t even have a ring and I said yes. I think we both knew very early on that we were very serious about having a long term commitment.
What made you chose your venue?
We chose the Hilton because we had many guests flying in from out of state and out of the country. They were conveniently located near the airport and the light rail. The Hilton also had experience with Hindu weddings and allowed outside catering. The staff was very attentive and that made the decision very easy.
What inspired your wedding day outfits?
We decided to do a traditional Hindu wedding and chose a red, silver and white theme which is fairly common for Hindu ceremonies. Since I grew up in the United States, we wore the traditional western white dress and tux for our reception the following day. I chose a lace trumpet dress with tulle details and a train to go with the romantic look of the evening. (All of this gorgeousness was shot by Erin Johnson Photography).
What inspired your wedding decor?
For Friday’s evening, we wanted a lot of color because Hindu weddings are typically very colorful. For Saturday night, we chose a more subtle cream, blush and white theme with purple lighting.
What was your favorite part of the day?
My favorite part of the day was the wedding ceremony. I was surprised by how emotional I was during it. I think couples get so caught up with planning that they forget what an important and meaningful occasion this is. This goes with my response to the question below regarding advice. I would tell all couples to just take it easy and know that everything will work out. Nothing has to be perfect. Once you’re done with your vows and signing your marriage certificate, all the rest is just fluff.
Did you have any Do it Yourself {DIY} projects? If so, can you describe them in detail?
My sister made the “thank you” sign we held up for photos for thank you cards post-wedding. She bought the supplies from a craftstore (canvas board, paint, stencils) and created it based on our wedding ceremony color scheme.
Congratulations and thank you Priyanka and Steven for sharing your special day with us!
