Inspired by the new film directed by SLB and starring Deepika Padukone, we have a special styled shoot for you!
Featuring California wedding professionals and our very own Timsi of TM’s Makeup Artistry, the team created a regal, yet strong look for Rani Padmavati.
Padmavati is a fictional queen that lived sometime in the 13th or 14th centuries. She appears in Padmavat, an epic fictionalized poem written by Malik Muhammad Jayasi in 1540 CE.
She was an exceptionally beautiful princess of the Singhal kingdom (Sri Lanka). Ratan Sen, the Rajput ruler of Chittor, heard about her beauty from a talking parrot. After a long quest, he won her hand in marriage and brought her to Chittor and bragged about marrying the most beautiful woman in the world. As punishment for his gloating, the Ocean god killed all their followers and swept Padmavati out to the island Lacchmi, the daughter of the Ocean God. Eventually Ratan Sen and Padmavati were reunited.
Alauddin Khalji, the Sultan of Delhi heard about Padmavati’s beauty, and decided to laid siege to Chittor to obtain her. After a breaking a parlay with Ratan Sen’s kingdom, Sen is captured and taken back to Delhi.
Padmavati implores two of Sen’s greatest warriors to help. Gora and Badal disguise themselves as her and the first wife Nagmati to trick Alauddin Khalji. They get the Sen and all goes well (except for Gora being killed, but whatever).
And of course, other kings become obsessed with Padmavati. So Ratan Sen challenges Devpal to a duel and they kill each other. Opps. And villian Alauddin Khalji shows up again with a massive army to take the city of Chittor and Padmavati for himself.
It all goes awry when she commits sati and the city burns down.
Anyway, that’s the legendary poem about her.
For the photoshoot, model Manali wore a delicately weaved Mysore georgette duputta with zardozi and brocade bridal lehenga. She wears a polki and kundan bridal jewelry set that was created by Taal Boutique. Our Padmavati also features the legendary uni-brow.
Now we just need to bring out the inner Padmavati beauty in all of us.
