Taking a page from traditional Indian weddings, Maya and Caleb decorated their modern Hindu wedding with gold accents and included Indian jewelry that paired perfectly with their sunny outdoor venue at Aliso Viejo Wedgewood in Orange County, California.
They used beautiful floral arrangements that mirrored those that they stood beneath at the altar. Much of the décor was handmade by Maya herself, some of which were the lanterns for her bridesmaids to carry in place of bouquets.
What was your wedding inspiration?
I drew inspiration from traditional Indian weddings. We incorporated such rituals into our ceremony, adorned our wedding in gold, and included Indian jewelry and fashions.
Did you do any DIY (do it yourself) or special projects/things at the wedding?
I did much of my signage and decor myself. My favorite was the lanterns I made for my bridesmaids to carry down the aisle. I used gold open air terrariums to fashion into lanterns. I hung ribbons and crystals from the bottom, adorned to sides with white flowers and gold and green leaves, and placed a candle in the center. It was a beautiful and unique alternative to bridesmaids bouquets.
What was your favorite part of the wedding?
My favorite wedding day memory has to be my husband doing an impromptu lap dance for me in the middle of the dance floor in front of all of our guests and family. He danced to Ginuwine’s ‘Pony’ and finished with his big move, a handstand into a backwards bend in my lap. Though slightly mortifying, everyone was cheering and it made for a great story.
My favorite wedding detail was the white and blush wisteria, under which we said our I do’s. It made for amazing photos and was stunning to stand under and look at.
What advice do you have for future brides/grooms-to-be?
You can’t make everyone happy. There are going to be people that get upset and feel it necessary to voice their opinions about your decisions regarding your own wedding. Don’t let it bother you. Just remember what is important to the two of you and do what makes you happy.
