The Retail Jeweler India Magazine had an amazing launch this year, filled with rare diamond and 22 kt gold showpieces and multiple celebrity models. The show was hosted this past weekend, February 20th, at the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai. It was hosted by the Gem and Jewelry Export Promotion Council and presented by bridal jewelers AZVA as well as World Gold Council and Fovevermark, gold and diamond producers.
The focus of the show was heavily on antique gold jewelry (think rustic!) and sparkling diamonds. Some beautifully colored gemstones were featured too, giving us a hint that Indian jewelry isn’t planning on getting predictable anytime soon! The collection boasts a seamless blend of Indian history with 21st century designs.
The designers featured at the 2014 show are all renowned for their timeless collections, which respond to the ever-changing artistic demands of Indian women. Common trends include traditional motifs such as Mughal inspirations mixed with floral designs from nature.
The eight “trendsetter” collections featured were Avdata (gold jewelry), RADeco (diamond jewelry), Mystical Mughals (gold jewelry), Arayana (polki and diamond), Satva (gold jewelry), Forever Fab (diamond jewelry), Farbe Collection (diamond and colored gemstone jewelry), and Royal Reservation (gold jewelry).
In additional to gorgeous jewelry and star sightings, the fashion show was an excellent display of some bright and playful Indian outfits – just in time for spring. Here’s a closer look at the styles and fashions popular this season:
Avdata – Traditional Gold Jewelry
Actress Aditi Rao Hydari is wearing a lovely purple and green anarkhali with a stunning layered gold choker necklace. I love the pink and green gemstone accents, as well as the plated design on the base of the necklace – it’s a perfect eyecatcher jewelry piece!
This jeweled and diamond necklace is all the glitz and glamour you’ve ever dreamed of! I love the splash of pink at the edges of the necklace, and the intricate, almost regal centerpiece.
Farbe Collection – Mughal-inspired Diamond and Gemstone Jewelry
Miss India International 2011 Gurleen Garewal is wearing a beautiful blue gown (love the vintage ruffled sleeves!) with a diamond and gold jewelry set. The necklace from Farbe Collection is dazzling, being made up of all diamonds, but the gold lower layer and pendant add an earthier touch to the ensemble while still maintaining the shine. The leaf-shaped earrings are a great blend of Indian patterns and natural inspirations.
Manasi Moghe, Miss India International 2013, looks stunning in this dholki pearl necklace that seems to be of gold-encrusted pearls. It’s a classy way to turn heads, especially with that simple red jewel pendant inlaid above the pearl ensemble. The necklace and earrings go great with deeper necklines or sweetheart cut necklines that need to show off some skin!
Mystical Mughals – Lavish Gold Jewelry
Check out the huge jeweled butterfly ring from Mystical Mughals on Miss India International 2012, Miss Rochelle Maria Rao! I love the subtle blue centerpiece and the diamond-laced wings.
Arayana – Polki and Diamond Statement Jewelry
Miss Asia Pacific World 2013 Shrishti Rana is gorgeous in this transparent purple saree-esque gown, but the gold jewelry from Arayana is the real showstopper. I love the dual-layered look, which shows off the pearl and gold close-laid beads at the base of the neck and allows the larger polki jewels to shine at the bottom. The thinner headpiece is a perfect compliment to the heavy-set necklace, and the jade tikka is a metaphorical icing on a very beautiful cake!
Royal Reservation – Rajput Gold Jewelry
Model Shibani Dhandekar’s necklace from Royal Reservation is downright amazing – the silver, green, and red jewels bring out the best of traditional Indian color preferences (especially for bridal jewelry). The unique cut of the earrings and sloped gold chain is a pretty accessory for any neckline.
Satva – Detailed Gold Jewelry
Actress Shazhan Padamsee is wearing an elaborate gold chain with jeweled pendants – it speaks to a very traditional jewelry design, but that doesn’t make it any less fabulous!
Forever Fab – Glamorous Diamond Jewelry
Ankita Shorey, Femina Miss India International 2011, show off the very shiny, very sleek grace of a diamond headpiece. It’s a simple way to glam up any outfit!
RADeco – Sustainable Diamond Jewelry
Miss India Earth 2012 Prachi Mishra rightfully represents this eco-friendly diamond jeweler. The diamonds are sustainably harvested, and gorgeous to look at as well. While Prachi’s outfit doesn’t boast any neckwear, she is wearing some dazzling earrings!
This year’s Retail Jewelers India Trendsetters Launch was a success in blending the traditional with the modern and the gold with the pearls, producing an impressive collection of gold, diamond, and gemstone jewelers to kick off 2014.
