The Retail India Jeweler Magazine put on a very successful fashion show on February 20th at the Grand Hyatt in Mumbai. Amongst the glitz and glam of the gold, diamond, and gemstone jewelry pieces, the show also boasted some very stunning and renowned models.
The theme of the show was a focus on traditional Indian customs, such as rangoli and Mughal-inspired designs, blended into a modern woman’s artistic interests in nature and bright colors. The results were some amazing pieces of jewelry, and some equally amazing (albeit not featured) outfits and styles from the lovely models.
The eight companies featured in the show are all respected in the Indian jewelry industry for being trendsetters in design and reputable in quality. It’s no surprise that these pieces were matched so perfectly with upcoming starlets in stylish outfits!
Miss Asia Pacific World 2013, Shrishti Rana, looks gorgeous in her sleek, New Age saree, which has the features of a traditional saree but the cut and style of a ballgown. The deep purple really emphasizes the gold jewelry she’s modeling for Arayana. The dual-layered necklace is definitely “statement” to say the least!
Prachi Mishra, Miss India Earth 2012, is representing RADeco, a diamond jeweler. The Miss Earth competition actually focuses on environmental awareness issues, so RADeco gets a special shoutout for harvesting socially and environmentally responsible diamonds for their pieces!
I’ll admit I’m not the biggest fan of Prachi’s red velvet bodice and feathery, translucent sleeves, but she does know how to rock a bare neckline! Her secret must be those dazzling diamond earrings she’s wearing, which give the whole look an elegant air.
Farbe Collections diamond and gemstone jewelry collection was modeled by Miss India International 2013 Gurleen Garewal. While the jewelry is sophisticated and eyecatching, her blue gown with its ruffled sleeves and layers really blew me away. It just goes to show how elegant Indian jewelry can compliment even Western outfits!
Femina Miss India International 2011 Ankita Shorey wore Forever Fab’s diamonds on the runway. Her sequined purple and red outfit is bit too reminiscent of a disco ball, especially with the very 80’s headpiece, but there’s no denying the shine and sparkle of those diamonds! The thin headband and dangly earrings even manage to draw attention away from those sequins – which isn’t easy to do.
Shazahn Padamsee, an actress, totally stole the show wearing this beautiful orange and deep blue lehenga and Satva gold jewelry. I love her outfit with its gold damask patterns and beaded bodice! The Mughal-inspired necklace, bangles, and ring add to the regal look that she is sporting.
Actress Aditi Rao Hydari looks lovely in this cute and playful purple anarkhali. What I love most about her outfit is the unique cut it has right above the waist. The jewelry, by Avadata, is pretty amazing as well! The gold plated choker is a throwback to ancient India with its heavy necklaces, but it also brings out the modern long, statement necklace look with layered chains and colored pendants.
Manasi Moghe’s black and red choli with a fabulously patterned border was a classic, fun outfit featured two always-flattering colors. The gold and pearl jewelry, along with her shimmery gold makeup, accented it well.
Mystical Mughals was well-represented by the gorgeous Rochelle Maria Rao, who flaunted the diamond-laced gigantic butterfly ring she was modeling. The statement piece is definitely an eye-catcher! Rochelle’s traditional green and red saree with its velvet blouse kept the rest of her look very historical Indian, making the butterfly ring stand out.
Model Shibani Dandekar is wearing a flowy bright red and deep blue anarkhali with velvet accents and gorgeous paisley embroidery. The jewelry, from Royal Reservation, really brings out this modern, yet conservative, look. The gold necklace itself boasts of traditional colors – silver, green, and red, but the unique thick gold chain is a forecast to modern, bolder jewelry styles.
The Retail Jewelers India Show was definitely very lucky to have these gorgeous ladies highlighting their trends for them. We look forward to all the pretty, sparkly jewelry that we’ll be seeing more of on the runways this season!
