Oh goodness, dear lovelies, you are going to fall head over heels with today’s wedding. This globetrotting couple, Tina and David, got married in Central America in the historic city of Antigua, Guatemala. Together with their family and friends, they had an intimate wedding overlooking volcanos in some of the most beautiful places.

We included several elements from both Jewish and Hindu culture as well as some Guatemalan elements. We hosted a “Mehndi Picnic” the day before with henna artists applying henna for our guests and a buffet by a famous Guatemalan chef’s take on Indian food. I wore an anarkali and my husband wore a kurta. The rehearsal dinner ended with a “Torrito,” which is a traditional Guatemalan fireworks display with man dressed as a bull. We added an Indian twist to ours and had an elephant instead of a bull.
We had a ketubah ceremony before the wedding. For the wedding, we had a Hindu ceremony followed by a Jewish ceremony. They were held outside atop Antigua’s famous El Cerro de la Cruz, a hill that offers a magnificent view of one of the three volcanoes that surround Antigua and overlooks the entire city below. The mix of the two ceremonies was visually stunning and it was a beautiful way to join both families.
During the cocktail hour we served Indian food including pay bhaji sliders. The reception was held at the temple of Las Capuchinas, a convent built in the 1700s that is beyond gorgeous! We played Indian music (which everyone loved) and did the hora (the chair dance) and danced the night away. Our dessert table at the reception included a variety of traditional Indian sweets, plus a turquoise and gold wedding cake.
I wore an off white lehnga for the ceremony because I wanted something that was the ‘fusion’ white wedding dress/Indian sari. For the reception, I went with a royal teal and purple lehnga.
