Bollywood is a great source for fashion inspiration, and as it turns out, for wedding inspiration as well. The shimmer and shine of our favorite celebrity’s on-screen outfits is enough to keep us mesmerized – and it’s even better when the movie features a wedding!
From Aishwarya to Deepika, here are our favorite wedding outfits worn in movies by some A-list Bollywood stars:
1. Aishwarya Rai in Jodhaa Akhbar
A true Mughal rani, pretty much everything Aishwarya Rai wears in this movie is amazing and exquisite. The intricate gold embroidery and heavy, drooping kundan jewelry adds to the richness and elegance of her look. The red and gold lehenga was Queen Jodhaa’s wedding outfit in the movie – and its deep colors and gold shimmers sure do suit a queen!
2. Kajol in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge
This iconic green lehenga is remembered as much as the movie itself! I love the silky fabric and the sophisticated, albeit “traditional”, cut of the dress. The gold shoes and jewelry complement the outfit to suit a very happy wedding between Kajol’s and SRK’s characters!
3. Aishwarya Rai in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
Again, Aishwarya rocks the fabulous wedding lehenga with this memorable blue piece. Blue, gold, and beaded all over, the lehenga is well-embellished and stands out in its unique shade.
4. Madhuri Dixit in Hum Apke Hai Kaun
Another green stunner, Madhuri’s lehenga in this movie manages to steal the show – even with its very traditional high collar! The silky fabric and heavy silver beading around the collar has a lot to do with the glamor of the dress. Madhuri’s character definitely wears it well.
5. Karishma Kapoor in Hum Saath Saath Hain
This orange and gold lehenga that Karishma is rocking in Hum Saath Saath Hain is stunning! The bright colors and ornate jewelry really pull together an elaborate wedding look. It’s traditional, but also regal in a timelessly classic style.
6. Rani Mukherjee in Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna
Wow, this red Bengali-style lehenga from Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna is everything a bride could ever want! The royal reds and golds paired with intricate beading and a standout green border truly create an elegant, show-stopping outfit. Rani Mukherjee’s character may have gone through some pain in this movie, but she looked stunning doing so!
7. Priyanka Chopra in Mujshe Shaadi Karogi
Priyanka Chopra manages to look great in almost anything, but her ability to wear an Indian lehenga is exceptional. In this movie, she shows off how in-shape she is, as well as how fashionable she is, with this gold, silver, and red lehenga. Who knew gold and silver could complement each other so well? I love the detail on her choli and the pop of red that brings some color to the otherwise purely shiny outfit.
8. Kareena Kapoor in Kabhi Kushi Kabhi Gham
Not many brides decide to go with pastels over red for their filmy weddings, but Kareena’s character in K3G did so charmingly. This light blue lehenga is accented with frills and lace for a happy, yet classy, look. And the yellow roses are a great touch of contrast. Hrithik Roshan’s character was a lucky guy!
9. Deepika Padukone in Ram Leela
To be fair, this lehenga wasn’t worn at a wedding, but it’s simply too gorgeous to not include in this list of amazing Bollywood wedding lehengas. Without mentioning any spoilers, let’s hope Deepika’s character would’ve chosen something similar for her movie-wedding. The red and black combination is a classic, but good one. I especially love the old-style mirrored and kundan jewels embroidered into the outfit.
10. Alia Bhatt in 2 States
A shoutout to South Indian fashion – I’m loving the color blocking and silk in this wedding outfit. South Indian sarees are categorized by heavy, shimmery silks and thick, embroidered borders. Alia Bhatt, despite not being South Indian, dresses up quite convincingly in this simple, but elegant outfit.
Our favorite Bollywood heroines really know how to dress up for weddings – but that doesn’t mean us average ladies can’t be gorgeous brides as well. Thanks to Bollywood, we get all the stylish, bridal inspiration straight from the source of Indian glamor!
