Rohit Bal’s ‘GULBAGH’, inspired by the rich and lush Mughal Gardens of Kashmir, is a tribute to the unparalleled beauty of the valley.
‘GULBAGH’, meaning ‘Garden of Flowers’, takes us into a land riddled with fantasy and a lingering fragrance of floral dreams. In this, the true Kingdom of Jannat, flowers have always been held sacrosanct. From the peony to the chrysanthemum, the trellis of wild roses and the ubiquitous lotus, this collection is special.
This distinctly prêt-a-porter collection has been specially created for the Wills Lifestyle Grand Finale 2014, and has the signature Rohit Bal look and the feel of being contemporary with strong Indian sensibilities.
The fabrics range from fine handlooms like chanderi, fine mulmul, matka silk and voile while velvet lends a hint of luxury. Techniques like hand-block printing have been used with vegetable dyes and gold leaf embossing, with a generous use of quilting and tilla, hand embroidery in resham. This subtle collection revels in an extravagant use of thread and metallic gold.
Ivory forms the basis of this canvas, embroidered and printed in deep jewel tones enhancing the purity of this earthy textile. The use of rich brocade from Varanasi adds the right amount of glamour and opulence to the otherwise understated and demure collection. This collection represents the craft and heritage of India.
Men wore creams and golds to bright neon colors to rich and dark regal looks. They wore dhotis, sherwanis, and long gowns.
