Chandrika and Rahul had a stunning wedding in Delhi, India, full of Rajasthani traditions and good food!
From the many outfits the bride had, to the stunning wedding grounds, we’re excited to head to India for this Hindu wedding! Chandrika shares her wedding story with us.
What was wedding like?
Our wedding was a mix of modern and royal Rajasthani traditional culture. The groom is Australian who lives in Melbourne and I have roots in Rajasthan.
The engagement happened in Hotel Samrat Chankya Puri, which had amazing decoration and delicious food.
The wedding happened in the lush green farm of Chattarpur, New Vasu Garden. We also had several ceremonies at our own respected homes in Delhi.
When it comes to the wedding itself, The Big Fat Indian Wedding starts from big fat wedding invite. Our card was huge; it was stuffed with dry fruits and gifted with silver Lakshmi Ganesh murty as a gesture of blessing and good start. We consider silver as “shubh” so all guests got this gift along with cards. There was a beautiful poem written on the bride’s card displaying every parent’s emotion on their daughter’s wedding day.
Tell us about your wedding outfits!
As I arrived in India just ten days before wedding, I had little time to finalize on my outfits.
My favorite fabric is velvet so you will find that in all my outfits. I prefer fine, minute work specially of gota patti, resham, zari, zardoji, antique and swaroski, so many of my outfits have these work. Anjali and Arjun Kapoor design beautiful western fusion outfits, and they’ve been a top choice. Ritu Kumar is my favorite for Indian Bridal work.
On the engagement day I wore a pink color gown with ethnic touch. It is beautiful with red velvet flowers embedded on it. The dress has a fully studded top with my work of antique style embroidery and Swaroski crystals. I kept a beautiful train to give a regal look. My make up was from Ambika Pillai senior Artist Chavvi, jewellery from Tanishq and shoes from Steve Madden.
On the wedding day in morning, I wore a special bottle green color lehenga. It’s a very close to me as my Naanisa (Granny) gifted it to my mom, who wore it in her wedding. Then, my elder sister wore it at her wedding, and then I was fortunate to wear that Khandaani Poshak in my Maayra (Bhaat) function. It was very special.
On my wedding day, I chose a hot red color velvet lehenga with pure golden gotta patti work. I paired the lengha with one heavy necklace since I find multiple necklaces overbearing. I bought an antique gold set with ruby and diamonds studded on it to match it with my lehenga.
What advice for future bride and grooms?
Hire the best professional photographers and make up artist as you will see the wedding pics again and again.
Don’t get panic and take stress on minor issues. Wedding are a big event and people who love you will come to give you blessings, rather than commenting on the arrangements.
On you wedding day, take ten minutes and have a look around just to thank yourself that your efforts are successful.
Enjoy every moment of the wedding as the real happiness and glow comes from inside.
Don’t forget to thank to your parents, loved ones and close friends as they equally took all the pains for wedding!
Oh yes, and do prepare a dance with your partner, it’s a unforgettable moment.
