Lovelies, we’re ending the week with another beautiful fusion wedding of Christian and Muslim traditions!
Hillary and Shay got married at an intimate banquet hall in Lawrence, Kansas with their friends and family. After having a whirlwind Christian ceremony, they had a Muslim wedding ceremony. There was no shortage of pretty outfits for Hillary and stylish shoes for Shay!

Tell us about the wedding!
Our Muslim ceremony was held in Lawrence, Kansas. It brought together Pakistani and American cultures. Our officiant went above and beyond our expectations and really accommodated to the American culture by explaining the ceremony in such a way that everyone could feel included and really understand what was going on.
Even though we had two ceremonies, they went by SO fast. We are beyond lucky that we chose Josh & Loraine from Mojica Photography to document these two very special days. They did a fantastic job and we have these memories to last us a lifetime.
What was the inspiration for your wedding?
Without the groom’s parents (Muslim culture) we would not have made this ceremony possible.
All of our clothing was custom and handmade from Pakistan. This included the bride and groom’s outfits and the bridesmaids and groomsmen. Even members from the bride’s side (American culture) also wore the traditional Pakistani clothing. It truly was a beautiful sight to see, both families & different cultures coming together to celebrate our marriage.
One wedding custom that took place was the stealing of the groom’s shoes. The female family members distract/steal the shoes from the groom and the groom’s friends have to help get them back. It typically ends with the groom bribing whomever has the shoes and that lucky individual usually receives cash. In our case, the victors got to go out for ice cream with the bride and groom.
What was the hardest part about wedding planning?
Our challenge was that we had two weddings to plan. Our Muslim ceremony took place on August 8th, 2014 and our Christian wedding took place on August 9, 2014. We had a full out wedding weekend, but it turned out to be absolutely perfect!
Did you do any DIY (do it yourself) or special projects/things at the wedding?
For our Muslim ceremony we handmade our table centerpieces and for the Christian wedding, I (the bride) made a candy bar for our guests to enjoy while helping us celebrate.
What was your favorite part of the wedding?
Seeing both families & cultures come together as one during such an important time in our lives. It truly meant the world to us.
What advice do you have for future brides/grooms-to-be?
Enjoy every minute!
