You can always certain about one thing about California weddings: they always have a sunny, happy-go-lucky, drop dead gorgeous spirit. Whether it’s a wedding on the beach, in the mountains, or at a temple, you will never be disappointed with a California wedding.
And today’s multicultural, multi-religious Indian wedding is exquisite. Bride Raman wore a kanjevaram sari for the Hindu ceremony and a cream and red lengha for the Sikh wedding. Complete with kundan jewelry and the ever lasting kalires.
We’ll let Raman tell their beautiful wedding story.
Tell us about the wedding!
I’m Sikh (Raman) and Amit is Hindu so we wanted to cover both our personal and families spiritual beliefs.
We were going for a intimate, close, and personal style. We kept our Hindu ceremony at the Livermore Shiva-Vishnu Temple in Livermore, CA to just immediate family. I had a traditional Sikh pre-wedding Ladies Sangeet at My Royal Palace in Milpitas, CA which Amit and his family attended as well. Our Sikh wedding was at the Sikh Gurdwara Sahib San Jose, CA incorporated our friends and extended families.
Since Amit’s family is primary in New Dehli, India and mine in the Bay Area, California, we negotiated that the wedding ceremonies would be in the US so all my family could attend and the reception party in New Dehli at the India Habitat Centre. We don’t have the pictures from the reception yet.
What was the inspiration for your wedding?
We both strongly believe in meditation, yoga, & karma. Our inspiration was our belief that we are soul mates and that it was our karma to spend our lives in this current human form together.
What was the hardest part about wedding planning?
Hardest part was figuring out the location’s since Amit’s family is primarily in India and mine in the US. It was also tough because we wanted my brother-in-law to be a part of the wedding regardless of location but since he is in the US Air Force, his current position requires a high level security clearance that wouldn’t allow him to travel to India. That narrowed down our choices. Also, both my grandmothers are sick, which lead us to move up the date so they could attend. Unfortunately, one of them was still too sick to attend.
What was your favorite part of the wedding?
Marrying the love of my life and sharing the union of Amit and I joining our lives as one with our friends and family.

What advice do you have for future brides/grooms-to-be?
Fun, Laugh, Smile – Have lots of fun, don’t sweat the small stuff, and laugh as much as you can!
Is there a story behind your wedding outfit?
Growing up in the US I always wanted to wear a white princess gown for my wedding. When I saw my wedding lengha I chose it because it reminded me of the princess gown I always wanted. My red Hindu ceremony saree was a traditional kanjeevaram saree my mother in law brought me from India. I plan to pass it down to our future daughter or daughter in law!
