Are y’all ready for another beautiful southern Indian fusion wedding? And that’s American southern too!
Last year we featured a Tamil Iyer wedding at the Mackey House, and this time we have a vibrant, Punjabi Christian wedding.
Photographed by Red Book wedding vendor, Jamie Howell, these photos will brighten your day! And the couple, Liza and Monuj, are just oh so sweet.
Liza was the quintessential Punjabi bride complete with kalirees, choodas, and a radiant mangenta pink lengha.
And these crystal styled haath phool – stunning!
For the Christian wedding, she wore a white wedding dresse with a dark pink bouquet and a heirloom lace piece. Husband Monuj sported a three piece suit.
As for the wedding decoration – it was full all good Southern weddings have: outdoor seating, a dance floor, and lanterns/glittering bulbs!
Before I let bride Liza share their wedding story, check out this five story wedding cake in white and purple.
Alright, in love now? Good!
Tell us about the wedding!
Monuj and I really desired a wedding that showcased who we are individually, and who we will become as a married couple. The Mackey House, an old plantation home in Savannah, Georgia, was the perfect location, as we preferred an intimate affair with an element of charm and coziness. The Hindu wedding, complete with a Baraat and Sarbala, was every bit a pure Punjabi-style celebration.
Between the two ceremonies, guests enjoyed samosas and shrimp and grits, an homage to Monuj’s Indian heritage as well as our new life together in the south. Our Christian wedding was intimate and picturesque, taking place at sunset while we recited our own vows. The reception was an absolute rocking party with plenty of food, drinks, dancing, and Bollywood hits.
What was your favorite part of the wedding?
My favorite part of the day was having my hair, makeup, and wardrobe changed three different times! Despite my fair skin, I felt every part the quintessential maharani!
Monuj’s favorite aspect of the affair was the R2D2 groom’s cake, as he has been an avid Star Wars fan since he was a small child.
A final personal touch was the lace bible cover that was wrapped around my bouquet. My mother carried a bible with that lace cover when she got married to my father, and I wrapped the lace cover around my bouquet.
Did you do any DIY for the wedding?
While we had many wonderful vendors contributing to our wedding, Monuj and I did some of our own DIY projects as well. For instance, we made our wedding programs from premium wrapping paper purchased at HomeGoods and adhered it to cardstock with adhesive spray. It took many many hours, but the end result was flawless and well worth the effort.
Other projects that we took on include the seating chart, made from our computer and printed at Kinkos, and the table signs. We actually decided to forego traditional table numbers, and instead, named them after cities that are important to us. Those signs were all constructed and printed at home by us.
Final thoughts about your wedding?
The entire wedding was beautiful and enriching. Aunties came together to dress my girlfriends in suits and saris, and my girlfriends explained the rituals of the Christian wedding. Despite minor hiccups, such as the hole that I burned in my veil the morning of the wedding, the entire event unfolded wonderfully.
It was everything that Monuj and I had ever dreamed it would be, seamlessly fusing our two cultures into one.
Thanks so much for sharing your wedding with us!
