Tell us about your wedding.
Our wedding was a whirlwind, while our beginning was hardly a fairytale. Sahil and I met 20+ years back, we had a love-hate relationship all our life. Our fathers have been childhood best friends since pre-school , so our history goes back 50 years . “We met , then we un-met and then we met forever.” The year 2013 changed our lives forever, we instantly connected .
What was the inspiration for your wedding?
Our dads were childhood friends, a friendship that spans 50 years. MMTP – thats Micky (bride’s Father), Manoj, Tanny (groom’s father) and Pummy – were inseparable friends. Even when they all got married they were always together. The Sahil’s father later on moved to Bangalore, but every year MMTP and their families traveled on holidays together. Shivani (the groom’s sister) and I used to bully Sahil and were always stealing his bicycle and locking him up. We never got along.
Then 2013 came along, and the we met in Bangalore when she was visiting with her parents. The first dinner out on that trip changed everything, we had a lot in common and their was an instant spark which got us to go out the next day. We spent some time alone that’s when childhood enemies became friends.
I left for Delhi 2 days later. We started to text each other and that never stopped. There was an unsaid connection and attraction from both sides, and we texted for two months will we met again. (And a little credit goes to Instagram as well) We went on secret dates and lied like we did when we were teenagers. Then came February and the bomb burst, the parents were shocked but overjoyed and the rest is all history.
What was the hardest part of planning your wedding?
The hardest part of the wedding planning was “the Planning” itself – Brainstorming ideas, invites, the guest list, outfits, the decor, the event manager and his team, and most of all to choose who’s going to be implementing all the ideas was a task itself. To get the card made, the my father had to go further up in the north to look for a vendor. He took a chirpy car ride of 6 hours with uneven roads to get to a village area but he made sure found his way there. Once you look at the card, it says it all.
What was your favorite part of the wedding?
The selfies – Before the jai mala, as my father was walking me out, he took out his phone and took a beautiful selfie just before he handed me over to Sahil. After the jai mala, the Sahil and I took a selfie of our own.
What 3 words of advice do you have for future brides/grooms-to-be?
ENJOY your wedding.
