Happy Wednesday, readers! I hope the week is treating you well. We have an extra special two-part wedding feature for you. Nadia and Theo, courtesy of Altar Image Photography, had a traditional Holud Ceremony which preceded their beautiful wedding.
This is what the bride had to say about how she met her husband.
“Ted and I met at a club ( of course). We didn’t speak much that day, but we did have a small conversation over a drink. He really sparked my interest so I asked our mutual friend to invite him out to dinner with us. The night of the dinner we spoke for hours and really bonded over our shared music interests. That night, he asked me to lunch and we’ve been together ever since.”
The ceremony itself featured a DIY altar:
“For the holud, my parents actually built the altar by hand. My dad is super crafty. My mother decorated it with her saris and flowers from Michaels.”
The Bengali holud ceremony, much like the haldi ceremony involves applying turmeric paste to the faces of the bride and groom. They are then fed fruits and sweets by everyone in attendance, blessing the couple with a lifetime of love and prosperity.
And after the ceremony, guests and the couple danced the night away!
