Yes ladies, you read that right. Dolce and Gabbana will be launching an exclusive couture line of abayas and hijabis for the stylish woman.
Knowing that 70% of luxury good sales occur in the Middle East (and hey, we all saw Sex and City Two with the hidden room of lux ladies), D&G hope to capture the even more of the market.
I love the idea and some of these abayas are oh my allah gorgeous.
The abaya with yellow hummingbirds on nectar. A little kitsch, but it’s trademark D&G.
And the black lace on cream abaya. Umm, gorgeous!
I am however very confused about the model. She looks really white. Like European white. Or American white. But certainly not Muslim’y. Okay I know I’m not Muslim, but I am Indian and I couldn’t relate to the model at all. She just felt out of place wearing the abaya – like she was a misplaced wedding guest to a Saudi royal wedding.
Perhaps the weirdest was Dolce and Gabbana’s racy abaya that shows the knees? The KNEES?! Since when did abayas turn into pencil skirts?
So lovelies, what do you think about this move of western fashion designers to tap into Muslim women’s style?
