The past week I was in London for a launch party and to scout fabulous wedding companies to bring to you all. I also attended a master class with Cafe Spice Namaste in London founder and chef Cyrus Todiwala and famous British soap actress Nina Wadia.
Nina was in the famous and hilarious show Goodness Gracious Me and is currently starring in Eastenders.
It was a spectacular class to learn three delicious dishes (recipes to come later) from the Lucknow region of India.
The get together, about 15 of us, was not to just to eat delicious food but to raise awareness for the UK non profit organization Find Your Feet and their fundraising program, Curry for Change.
You’re probably wondering, what does Find Your Feet have to do with weddings? Well, nothing really. But many brides are today opting to donate to a charity instead of giving out wedding favors. Talk about good karma instead of candy coated almonds!
Find Your Feet has been established for over 50 years and works in India, Malawi, Nepal and Zimbabwe to help families build a future free poverty. They help support families to grow enough food so they don’t have to go hungry, to strengthen their voice so they can speak out against injustice, and to earn enough money so they can find their feet.
The non-profit works in some of the most remote states and rural areas of India: Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. And they are one of the few organizations bringing hope, food and sustenance to these areas.
How You Can Help:
* This summer in London visit one of the restaurants participating in the Curry for Change. By eating there, part of the proceeds will go to Find Your Feet.
* You can also have a Curry for Change dinner at home. Host a dinner, cook with friends, and solicit donations. And if you’re not an Indian cuisine expert, that’s okay too! When you sign up for the Cook at Home fundraiser you will receive recipes, spices, donation envelopes, and tips on cooking.
* Made a direct donation. In a hurry for a curry? Then make a direct donation to Find Your Feet.
You know what the best part of the whole thing is? Eating Indian food has never been so awesome! Think about it, go out, eat fluffy naan and a curry, and save lives across the world. Bet you can’t say that about Raman noodles.
