Eshna and Suneil have the sweetest love story and we just can’t wait to share their wedding day with you! From meeting at grad school in Michigan to a romantic wedding at This is the Place Heritage Park in Utah, Eshna and Suneil’s love story is one for the ages.
The lovely couple’s photographer, Pepper Nix Photography, was able to share some key moments from Eshna. Take it away!
How did the proposal happen?
Suneil proposed on our one year anniversary. We went to dinner at this restaurant in Ann Arbor which was next to a river walk we had gone on the first weekend we were in Ann Arbor. Afterwards we went by the river for old times sake and he proposed! I was so happy I started calling friends and family on the way to a wine bar he wanted to stop by at. Little did I know he had brought in my brother from Chicago and organized champagne and celebrations with our close friends.
Describe your bridal attire. (gown, accessories, hair/makeup-overall look) What inspired the wedding day outfits?
I liked these two dresses I had seen online and so my mom and I designed my dream dress.
Did you do a first look before the ceremony?
Yes we did a first look. It was really fun and made the moment even more special!
Was there a decor theme for the ceremony and what was the music like?
Indian rustic chic was the decor theme. I walked in to one of my favorite Bollywood songs called Raabta.
Why did you pick your location for your ceremony?
The mountains and the waterfall highlighted Utah’s natural beauty. It was isolated enough for privacy and central enough for convenience.
What is your favorite ceremony memory?
In Hindu wedding tradition (Jaymala) you have to fight to place garlands on each other while the wedding party tries to make it difficult by lifting bride and groom. Our wedding party made it fun by lifting us up and really embracing the moment.
Talk to us about the reception decor. Where did you get the inspiration for your color palette and design?
My bridal colors were mint blue and pink when I started planning, so my reception dress was that combination. But we added purple to complement it in place settings. Indian weddings are typically super colorful, so our mandap was bright colors. Bridesmaids dresses were blue and I wore pink. For the wedding ceremony both Suneil and I had silver embroidery in our outfits and then for the reception we changed into gold.
Describe your wedding flowers.
We initially just bought spray roses, oriental lilies and green fillers and our florist just crushed it with what she was given. We were very impressed with how well she brought everything together. Our DIY decorative mason jars were based on something we liked on Pinterest.
Were there any Do it Yourself (DIY) projects? If so, can you describe them in detail?
I made the place cards gold and purple and spray painted little clothes pins. We also made the photobooth ourselves! As we mentioned we made the flower vases as well.
What were some personal details you incorporated?
We mixed some American traditions with Indian traditions—for example we had groomsmen and bridesmaids. As an Indian tradition, the bridesmaids stole the groom’s shoes and made him pay cash to get them back. The priest invited all guests to throw rice at the couple as a way to give them blessings. Yes, 230 people threw rice at us in the scorching heat!
