Colorful Pop Sikh Fusion Wedding in San Jose {California}

We have a fun and colorful Sikh fusion wedding today! Hardeep and Clinton got married at the San Jose Gurdwara and the reception in Fremont, California.

Tell us about the wedding!
We wanted this to be a fun filled wedding. Minimum crying and just joyful faces. That’s exactly what we got! Our highlight video was filled with fun and some lip singing might i add.

Having a life sax player and dholi made it even more memorable!

Could you tell us about any special wedding customs/clothing you had?
All the ceremonies were performed together. We had one Jagoo night where we did our Chuni and Kumari ceremony as well. Haldi was done together as well.

Wedding day:
I want to say it was just a perfect day minus the rain of course. Started my day at 3:30AM for makeup and dressing. The plan was to leave for the Gurdwara around 9AM, but I was running late! His side was on time, so we had Paragon 9 do more video shots of the groom to keep him busy so I can leave the house. Even though I woke up in the middle of the night to get ready, you feel you never have enough time!

Everything went smoothly, the San Jose Gurdwara changed their interior to purple and yellow to match our wedding colors. The groom’s outfit has purple inner lining because we wanted to have something on that was our wedding colors.

My little nephew (5) was able to make sure my grumpy niece (3) makes it down the aisle as she refused to be part of ceremony earlier. Just like that, we got married, everything seemed to fall right into place.

I even got to take few photos in the sun as it had stopped raining. Came time for vidai and I thought I could hold it together, but my little nephew made me cry.

What was the inspiration for your wedding?
A colorful wedding! Wanted our wedding to be colorful, each day theme included a different color, a different mood.

Sangeet included all colors, but main color was Orange — “”Fun, let’s play with colors””
Mehndi – Green for a little bit of luck
Mayai and Chura – Red – nothing says wedding unless it has the color RED all over
Wedding – Purple and Yellow – Just because it’s our fav colors
Reception – Classy with a hint of pink

What was the hardest part about wedding planning?
Staying on budget! Indian weddings are expensive and trying to get everything you want and still stay within budget was hard, but you learn to spend money on what’s important and where to make compromise.

Did you do any DIY (do it yourself) or special projects/things at the wedding?
The centerpieces, signs, and boutonniere were all handmade by my friends and I.

What was your favorite part of the wedding?
The smile on his face as I walked down the aisle. The little teasing when sitting next to him to become one.

The look on my dad’s face as he’s ready to give me away. The father-daughter dance (he has never danced in his life prior to the father daughter dance).

The moment my nephew realizes that I am leaving the house.
