If you have been following along, you will see that this week has been spent talking about the boudoir and the dudeoir. The wedding boudoir is a series of photos by the bride that is usually presented to her new husband on their wedding night.
The dudeoir is a series of photos with dudes posing in sexy and normal positions. Like the boudoir, but with dudes. I personally think this is the best thing since sliced bread because it allows men to express themselves in a safe area and feel proud of their looks.
If you are dude reading this, or you’re a bride thinking, “hey, I totally dig my future husband taking these photos as a gift for me!”, then here are six tips on having a successful dudeoir. And to get the skinny, I spoke to Mariah of Carle Photography, on what she considers the most important.
1. Preen – Trim your nose hair, seriously! Shave, no five-o’clock shadow please. And cut your hair if needed.
2. It’s a date – Pretend you’re going on a date. How do you want to look? How do you want to feel? Get yourself psyched out and ready to have a lot of fun.
3. Pressed Clothes – Don’t forget to iron your clothes that you’re bringing for the shoot. Carry nice shirts and pants in dressing bags.
4. Outfit & Accessorize – Bring three outfits to the shoot. If you only bring one tee-shirt and one pair of jeans, you and your photographer don’t have a lot to work with. But bring three shirts (formal and informal), a pair of jeans or two, and a pair of slacks or dress pants. And shoes and watches too please. You may not use everything, but you will be prepared.
5. Hobby time – Most of us have a hobby of some sort. It might be sports, or reading books, or playing video games. Hobbies make you you. If you love playing Halo 3, then bring a PS3 controller and charging wire. If you love reading Wired magazine, bring a whole stack of old Wired mags (or any mags – you can use those as filler).
Bring something that represents you and you’ll have a great prop.
6. Feel Good – You’re going to have a great dudeoir session if you in with a positive attitude and a goal to have fun and feel good. Don’t fret that you don’t have the perfect washboard stomach, or have grey hair. Even if you doing a dudeoir for your partner, this is still for you. It’s your body, don’t forget that!
Get out there and get your clothes off. Happy shooting!
