Indian weddings are incredibly distinctive. The colors, the embellishments, the customs – everything about them is unlike the typical American wedding.
But here’s one way you can bridge the gap: By incorporating seasonality into your planning. Indian weddings don’t always have this – after all, the customs began in India, where seasons don’t really exist. But if you’re planning a stateside wedding, seasonality might be a necessity. After all, certain flowers only bloom in specific seasons.
There are simple ways to bring a seasonal feeling into your big day. Check out some of our top tips for every season.

Winter: If you’re getting married in the colder months, you have two choices: You can either opt for a deep, sophisticated vibe or go for a crisp, clean palette. The former option might be more in line with what an Indian wedding typically looks like: You can use jewel tones like emerald green and ruby red along with deep gold embellishments. On the other hand, the crisp option is more classic. Opting for ivory linens and cream flowers gives your wedding a beautiful winter white theme. Or, blend the two ideas: Opt for cream linens and deep crimson roses for a dramatic winter scene.

Spring: The spring is all about feminine colors and fresh, lush flowers. Colors like peach, blush, baby blue and lavender make gorgeous options for spring weddings – you can incorporate these shades into your floral centerpieces or even your outfit. Tulips, lilies and peonies are all examples of beautiful spring flowers that can lend a seasonal vibe to your wedding. Since florals are a huge part of a spring wedding, you can go crazy with the centerpieces, opting for matte, solid-colored linens. Keep your makeup in shades of peach and pink to play into the spring theme even further.

Summer: If you’re a summer bride, feel free to break out the brights! Colors like yellow, hot pink and orange seem right at home at a summer wedding – but be careful not to overdo it. We love to look of a few bright flowers against muted decor. We also love to option of doing an ombré color scheme for a fall wedding – choose one color (for example, pink) and use different shades of that same color to create a gradient effect. As for your outfit, stay away anything too heavily embellished and look for vibrant colors like turquoise, magenta or coral.

Fall: Pinterest junkies, take note: Fall is the best time to throw a “rustic” wedding. This style is incredibly trendy right now and it’s perfect for the fall. burlap ribbon, mason jars, purple-tinged centerpieces – these details all scream fall. Sticking to a very neutral color scheme and accenting that with bright shades (think purple, orange or gold) is a great way to go when you’re planning a fall wedding. Another tip? Let the gorgeous falling leaves inspire your decor!
