Lakme Fashion Week collected India’s biggest superstars and paraded them in the prettiest, most glamorous outfits of the season – an unfailing recipe for huge success! While there are too many stars that played show stopper to each of Lakme’s many, many shows, here are some of the shiniest stars and famous faces on the runway.
Karisma Kapoor for Arpita Mehta
Karisma Kapoor was one of Bollywood’s favorite heroines in the 90s, and I’m glad she’s just as fabulous and inspiring today. This outfit was dazzling – from all the gold and mirror works to all the twirls she did in it! Watching her own the runway really made me miss her onscreen charm.
Kalki Koechlin for Kommal Sood
{via Facebook}
Kalki is actually French, but grew up in India where she stars in movies such as Yeh Jaawani Hai Deewani and Shanghai. Her French roots are definitely appropriate for this sparkling champagne dress! She’s currently spearheading a campaign for women’s rights in India – but that doesn’t mean she can’t look beautiful doing so!
Nargis Fakhri for Shehlaa Khan
{via Facebook}
American model Nargis Fakhri doesn’t actually speak Hindi, but I’m sure she understood the compliments she received after modeling “Shehlaa.” This dress is beautifully designed, with simplistic beading and a well-fitted bodice that allows Nargis to show off her…assets.
Illeana D’Cruz for Anushree Reddy
Illeana D’Cruz looks like a sweetheart – especially after her breakout role in Barfi!. She totally wows the crowd with this choli fit for a princess! The gold and pink is a pretty combination, and the elaborate beading and detail makes the outfit every rani‘s dream.
Priyanka Chopra for Neeta Lulla
Priyanka looks smooth and in control in this runway shot from Neeta Lulla’s show. The former Miss World and current Bollywood superstar has proven herself as a versatile actress, and now she can stand proud of her status in this sophisticated dress. I love the cream color and the simplicity of the design – it really makes the star stand out!
Jacqueline Fernandez for Tarun Tahiliani
You might recognize her from her skimpy item number in Race 2’s “Lat Lag Gayee” but this stunning bright orange and red anarkhali proves that she looks just as amazing with traditional Indian clothing on!
Sushmita Sen for Kresha Bajaj
Although she probably tops the age of her fellow showstoppers by maybe a decade, Sushmita Sen proves she’s just as beautiful – if not more so – than her younger peers. Her fierce attitude and ability to look strikingly beautiful in ANY outfit justifies her Miss Universe win back in 1994.
Gauhar Khan for Ken Ferns
Gauhar Khan is an accomplished model and reality TV show star who made her onscreen debut in Rocket Singh starring Ranbir Kapoor. Now she’s taking on the runway with this stunning two-piece outfit! The ombre colors add a fun, tropical flair to the design.
Prachi Desai for Sonaakshi Raaj
Prachi is seen all over India in Neutrogena ads and is quite popular on television. This fitted lehenga really shows off her tall figure – and the netted blouse is really eye-catching!
Dia Mirza for Anita Dongre
{via Facebook}
Former Miss Asia Pacific and actress Dia Mirza is huge on social change and making an impact. She appropriately chose to model for Anita Dongre, who creates simplistic and practical designs for the modern day Indian woman. This yellow piece has futuristic triangular patterns on the blouse, which brilliant contrast with subtle damask designs on the choli.
Lisa Haydon for Monica and Karishma
Australian-born model-turned-actress Lisa Haydon looks stunning in this pretty pink and gold Monica and Karishma gown.
Kirron Kher for Gaurang Shah
Wow, Aunty-ji! This runway photo just tells me that she should’ve been given a better wardrobe in Dostana, because her old-school glamour shines through these bright colors. She could probably give co-star Priyanka Chopra a run for her money when it comes to striking runway poses.
Sonakshi Sinha for Manish Malhotra
This young Bollywood actress seems to embrace her fortunate old-school Bollywood looks – her makeup is on point, simple and elegant. This dress compliments her tall figure as well, giving way to a longer, patterned skirt that falls from a high waist.
Kangana Ranaut for Jabong.com
{via Facebook}
The fierce and graceful Kangana Renaut also has the old-style glam and New Age attitude! You’ll remember her from the ultimate wedding movie, Tanu Weds Manu. She literally dazzles in this sparkly silver dress for the e-brand, and her dark lipstick and steely glare complete the look as something only such a successful star could pull off.
Sunny Leone for Jyotsana-Tiwari
Ex-porn star Sunny Leone now takes her sex appeal to mainstream television and Bollywood’s famed item numbers such as “Laila” from Shootout at Wadala. All that pink tulle and silver embroidery makes her look more like a princess than a former…entertainer.
Malaika Arora Khan for Anju Modi
Another item-number star (but also a successful producer with husband Arbaaz Khan!), Malaika a.k.a. “Munni” from Dabangg proves she has a demanding presence. This blue and grey dress is alluring – it goes from being happy and floral to somber and pale, and it looks beautiful doing it!
Kareena Kapoor for Rajesh Pratap Singh
{via Facebook}
Kareena closed Lakme Fashion Week in Rajesh Pratap Singh’s Grand Finale – and rightfully so! She probably is the biggest Item Girl in Bollywood currently – and has been for years. The way she can pull off any outfit and character with ease has contributed to her acting career, and her striking pose does justice to this black kimono-esque gown with silver roses.
